Scenario 1: You are in an important meeting in the late afternoon and you’re very drowsy from a big lunch. Your boss is going to want your notes from the meeting but you are so sleepy you can barely concentrate, much less write down anything. If only you had a way to record everything…
Scenario 2: You’re in your car and suddenly a brilliant money-making idea comes to you. Traffic is moving along at a good pace, so trying to write it down would definitely cause a major accident. If only you could record your thoughts…
QuickVoice is a recording solution that can come to the rescue in both situations. The application features one-touch recording and playback, Pause and Stop while recording, and a Speaker button that allows you to mute playback. (Note: If you’re using headphones for playback, the Speaker function will not work.) During playback, you can rewind by dragging the status indicator to the left; fast forward by dragging it to the right.
Opening QuickVoice on the iPhone® pulls up a list of recordings, including the date, time, duration and file size of each recording. A small blue triangle indicates which recording is selected—double-tap on any recording in the list to play it. To delete a recording, touch to select it, then touch the trash can and confirm deletion by pressing OK.
Once you’ve recorded the meeting or those big ideas, you can rename the recording by pressing the Title button and entering the new title on the touch screen keyboard. While the length of the title you can enter appears to be unlimited, the iPhone screen will show only the first 30 characters.
Want to share the audio file with a friend? Press the Email button, indicated by the small envelope, to send a .caf version of the recording. Enter the To and From email addresses in the space provided and tap Send. Messages up to 2 MB can be sent using the free version of QuickVoice; to send messages up to 20 MB, you’ll need to upgrade to QuickVoice Pro.
Pros: Easy to use, clear playback. Short and long recordings possible. Mail is sent very quickly with WiFi connection.
Cons: Mail server times out very quickly if WiFi is turned off or not available. Note: I am using a first-generation iPhone so this may not be an issue for iPhone 3G and 3G S users.
