free Palm Pre app reviews

Created by: Fandango.

Looking to see what’s playing in your neighborhood movie theater, but out running errands? Well, the Fandango® app for the Palm Pre® is your answer.

The Fandango app is the mobile version of the Fandango.com website, which has all of the movies playing in local theaters as well as coming soon to a theater near you. The app presents movies in your area based on your location (which you allow the app to determine upon launching it). Fandango starts out with a list of movies opening in the current week. Click on a picture and you get a synopsis and where it is playing in a theater near you. There are three icons at the bottom of the screen. Tap the ‘Trailer’ icon, and you can watch the movie trailer, right on your phone. Tap the ‘Reviews’ icon, and you can read the latest reviews of the movie. Tap on the ‘Photos’ icon, and you can see photos from the movie. And the best part, you can buy tickets right on your phone, by choosing the location you want to see the movie at and tap ‘Buy’. Enter in your credit card information and the tickets will be ready for you at the movie theater.

Going back to the start screen gives you more movie viewing choices, by tapping the arrow next to ‘Opening this Week’ at the top of the screen, and a new list of movies pops up on the ‘Top Box Office’ list. Tap ‘Theaters’ at the very top of the screen and you can get a list of all of the movie theaters in your neighborhood. Then, pick a theater and it gives you a list of movies playing there, where you can choose to purchase a ticket for your show of choice.

Underneath the “Preferences and Choices” menu, you can choose your settings, such as saving purchases to the calendar, signing in to your Fandango account, editing your credit card information, or viewing your purchase history.

Fandango is a great app for your Palm Pre. It is user friendly, has all the current and upcoming movies and it makes purchasing movie tickets in advance very simple.

Wooter for the Palm Pre® combines multiple portals – woot, sellout, shirt, kids, and wine sites – in one easy to use application. What is woot, you ask? Well, woot.com is an online internet store that has cheap cool stuff. They online sell one new item a day, every single day that is posted at midnight, central time. When it is sold out, it’s sold out and you need to wait for the next day to see a new item.

The Wooter app launches a window that has options for what type of item you are looking to purchase – general goods, wine, shirts or kids stuff. You pick a portal (I picked wine.woot) and the item that is up for sale appears on your screen. There is a picture, a witty description and a cost, plus a shipping cost. If you want it, you simply tap the “I want one!” icon at the bottom of the screen, and a new web browser window opens up where you input all of your information.. If you want to see reviews for the product, you tap the “Discussion” icon, and a new window opens up in a web browser, showing you what everyone else has said. It’s that simple.

For anyone looking for a good deal on non-specific items, then the Wooter app for the Palm Pre is for you.

Manage your Netflix® queue on the fly with PhoneFlicks for the iPhone®. Using this application you can view your queue, see your recent account activity, and find and add new movies to your queue.

The application’s main screen offers five options:

  • My Netflix – From here you can access your Netflix account. Tap here to view:
    • My Netflix Queue shows your entire queue. To see more information on any item, just tap on the title. You can also remove an item, move it to the top of your queue, or adjust its position in the queue by entering a new number.
    • My Instant Queue gives you a list of the movies currently available in your Instant Play queue. To move or remove a movie from your instant queue, tap on the title, then select the appropriate option using the buttons shown.
    • My Recent Activity lists the DVDs that have recently been shipped to you as well as any DVDs you have returned.
    • My Movies at Home shows you what DVDs you currently have checked out.
    • My Recommendations pulls up DVDs recommended for you based on your queue and your previous rating and rental activity.
    • My Reviews shows the reviews that you’ve written on DVDs you have previously viewed. You cannot write a review from this application.
  • Search lets you search the Netflix database by title. You can also search by actor but the database will only show you one film.
  • Browse lets you search through various film genres and subgenres. Tap the blue arrow to go to the next level, or tap the title to see a list of films.
  • Popular breaks down the most popular Netflix rentals using the same categories as on the website.
  • Account allows you to log in and out of your Netflix account.

While the graphics aren’t as exciting as what you find on Netflix’s website, and you can’t use this application to view movies, PhoneFlicks is very useful for quickly adding movies or seeing what’s available on Netflix.

Pros: Allows for Netflix queue management on the fly. Can move items around in queue. Lets you search for new movies to add to your queue.
Cons: Not as visual as Netflix’s website. Can’t use application to write reviews or instantly view movies.

It’s easy: Select a sound, email it to yourself and install it on your iPhone® as a ringtone. There are a lot of great ringtones available in this app. The selections are pretty diverse, although there is some double dipping in the categories. For instance, you can find a few different pairs of ringtones that sound too similar to one another to be considered as two ringtones. There’s a ringtone for just about anyone who wants a ringtone that fits their style in 1,001 Ringtones.

If you love reading horoscopes or if you’ve been known to ask someone “hey baby, what’s your sign?”, you’ll enjoy the iScopes application for the iPhone®. With a wide variety of horoscope styles to choose from, there’s a little something for everyone.

The main screen features all 12 signs of the zodiac in a wheel formation which you can scroll through to get to your sign. Once you’ve selected a sign, you can view information about the sign or read Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly horoscopes. Under Daily horoscopes there are 20 options based on area of interest, including BabyScope, FoodScope, Teen, Single’s Love, Flirt and Work. Some of the horoscopes are on the lighter side, such as the AstroSlam, but some horoscopes such as Finance are much more serious and can provide some food for thought.

Know your dog or cat’s zodiac sign? You can read them their horoscope from the Daily DogScope or Daily CatScope, respectively. My cats are rarely interested in their horoscope, but these entries are amusing to read. Today’s CatScope for Aries reads: “…You need to remind yourself that you are really a fierce predator who can handle any situation.” The Weekly horoscopes feature five different options, while the Monthly and Yearly horoscopes offer four and three options, respectively.

Overwhelmed by all the options? You can switch from viewing all the available horoscope types to only your favorites To select your favorites, press the Edit button on the top right corner, tap the star icons next to the horoscopes you want to see, and press Done when you’re finished. View only the starred ones by tapping the Favorites button in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Selecting Contacts from the main screen will show horoscopes for those people in your contact list with birthdays listed. The app pulls up your Contacts list—select the person whose horoscope you want to see and it will pull up their sign based on the birthday information entered in their contact listing. Have your Gemini pal’s email address in your contacts list? You can send their horoscope to them by pressing the Forwarding icon at the bottom right of the screen. The iPhone’s mail application will open a new email with the horoscope already inserted.

Like iTarot, iScopes is from astrology.com, a site offering free and paid astrology charts, Tarot card readings and other related services. This application includes a lot of ads, which can prove to be very distracting if you just want to read your horoscope.

Pros: Easy to use, large selection of categories. Works with birthday information in contact list (if available). Can send horoscope via email to others. Fun for those who love to read their horoscope daily.
Cons: Ads can be distracting.

In addition to being a bit of a technology geek, I’m also into metaphysical pursuits such as Tarot. When I’m able to combine these two loves I get very excited. That being said, I’m always on the lookout for mobile applications with a spiritual or metaphysical aspect. iTarot is a great little iPhone® application that helps me get a quick Tarot fix while I’m on the go.

Opening the iTarot application will pull up two cards at random: a Daily Tarot reading and a Love Tarot reading. To read what the card means, tap either card, then press Show to read the interpretation. You can go back to the main screen by pressing the Hide button.

As a student of Tarot for more than 7 years, I find the interpretations to be very accurate well-written and thought-provoking. The Daily Tarot card intepretations are written in first-person, so it’s easier to see how to apply the card’s lesson to your own experience. The Love Tarot interpretations provide guidance related to the card’s meaning.

To pull a new pair of cards, press the New button in the top left corner of the screen. Once you close iTarot, you’ll get a new pair of cards the next time you open it, so if you want to make a note of the card or interpretation you’ll have to write it down.

Tapping the Information button will take you to a page where you can email any issues you’re having with the program. Links to Astrology.com and iVillage.com are also available here.

Pros: Easy to use, clear images from a traditional Tarot deck. Card interpretations are accurate and insightful.
Cons: Cannot save or email a “reading” for future reference.

What I’d Like to See in the Next Version: A way to save the reading or send it to a friend via email.

Having problems making a decision or figuring out the best course of action? If you’ve often relied on the iconic Magic 8 Ball toy to help you out, you’ll love the iBall application for the iPhone®.

Not only does the iBall offer the traditional answers, such as “Reply Hazy, Try Again”, you can choose from among five other options. Answer categories include Zen-type answers, WWJD (What Would Jesus Do), New Years Resolutions, Weird and Programming Languages. The Programming Languages setting might be somewhat amusing for computer geeks, pulling up answers like “Perl”, “C” and “Javascript”. The Weird answers are more silly, with responses such as “Insert quarter for answer” or “Whew! Stinky breath.” For those who might like more spiritually inclined advice, the WWJD setting retrieves answers that are faith-based; “Humble and be exalted” and “Walk in their shoes” are among the possible responses.

There are eight backgrounds available in addition to the traditional black ball with the blue triangle. A jack-o-lantern, smiley face, Santa Claus and eyeball are among the more unusual options. There’s also a plain blue triangle as well as a golden ball. The solid white ball image is one of the most visually appealing as it features italicized answers.

One shake of the iPhone will change the answer on the screen. Tapping the left bottom corner of the screen will pull up the ball options, while tapping the bottom center of the screen gives you access to the answer types.

Pros: Great looking graphics; can change the settings on the sayings as well as the type of ball.
Cons: Ball image setting is sensitive and may pick the image more quickly than expected.
